Late this morning, we’ll pick you up from the Arequipa airport to begin exploring Peru’s elegant second city, known for its gleaming white buildings made from sillar, a volcanic rock that seems to glow in the sunlight. Nestled beneath the towering Misti volcano, Arequipa is a perfect blend of natural drama, colonial beauty, and modern vibrancy.

Our guided walk takes us through the UNESCO-listed historic center, revealing a rich tapestry of baroque churches, cloistered courtyards, and vibrant plazas. Then it’s off to one of the city’s lively local markets, where colors, aromas, and flavors collide. Taste your way through exotic fruits, freshly made street snacks, and the region’s bold Andean spices. This tour is equal parts history, culture, and culinary adventure—so bring your appetite and your curiosity.

Today we leave the city behind and head north into Peru’s rugged southern highlands, taking a lesser-traveled and spectacularly scenic route toward the Colca Canyon. Just an hour outside Arequipa, we’ll enter the Pampa Cañahuas National Reserve—a vast landscape where vicuñas roam freely and, if luck is on our side, we may even spot guanacos grazing beneath the shadow of the Misti and Chachani volcanoes.

As the landscape shifts, we’ll stop at the striking rock formation known as Puerta del Colca—a natural stone archway that looks like a massive gate carved by giants. A short drive away, we’ll reach Mollepunko, a remarkable cave site featuring petroglyphs estimated to be over 5,000 years old. Among the carvings are images of llamas, believed to represent the region’s early inhabitants.

Continuing our journey, we’ll marvel at the Castillo de Callalli—dramatic volcanic stone formations that resemble Doric columns straight out of ancient Greece. The road continues to reveal awe-inspiring views around every bend.

By late afternoon, we’ll arrive in Yanque, a peaceful village nestled in the Colca Valley. Here, you’ll settle into a charming local lodge and unwind as you prepare for the days of exploration ahead.

We start the day early and head straight to one of Peru’s most legendary natural viewpoints—Cruz del Cóndor. Here, at the edge of the Colca Canyon, we’ll wait in awe as the mighty Andean condors soar on thermal winds. These graceful giants, with wingspans stretching up to 10 feet, are a breathtaking sight.

On our way, we pass through villages like Maca and Yanque, where locals in vibrant traditional dress go about their daily routines. The beauty of this area isn’t just the landscape—it’s the connection to a living culture.

In the village of Coporaque, we’ll share a special lunch with a local family, giving you a taste of home-cooked Andean cuisine and a warm cultural exchange. After lunch, we lace up our boots for a scenic hike through ancient landscapes. Our trail takes us to the cliffside tombs of Yuraq Qaqa, then across rugged terrain to the Uyo Uyo ruins, offering panoramic views of the canyon and surrounding peaks.

We return to our lodge in Yanque in the early evening for a relaxing dinner and a night under the stars.

After breakfast, we begin our hike from the small village of Canocota, making our way along ancient trails that wind through the hills and terraces of the Colca Valley. This half-day hike allows us to take in the silent beauty of the Andes, with sweeping views over the canyon and glimpses of rural life along the way.

Once in Chivay, we transfer by vehicle to Sibayo, known as Rumillacta—or the Stone Village. Tucked into the upper Colca Valley, this tranquil town is known for its preserved pre-Columbian architecture and deep cultural roots. You’ll be welcomed into a local family’s home, where you’ll spend the night in a warm, comfortable homestay.

The afternoon is spent experiencing daily life in this high-altitude community. You might walk with llamas along stone paths, visit the ancient Paracra ruins, or learn about the village’s efforts to preserve its traditions. The night brings a rare silence and starlit sky—a moment of true Andean peace.

After a 4-hour drive with scenic stops for wildlife and lagoons, we arrive at this geologic marvel. We’ll hike to a panoramic viewpoint for unforgettable views of the canyons stretching out below, framed by bizarre stone formations that look almost sculpted.

We spend the night camping in this wild, untouched landscape. If weather permits, we’ll gather around a small campfire, sharing stories and enjoying the stillness of the high Andes.

We rise early and begin our journey down from Tres Cañones, following a rugged route through some of the most dramatic terrain in the region. Along the way, we stop to explore the little-known pre-Inca ruins of Mauk’allacta, where ancient stone dwellings whisper tales of early Andean life.

As we descend into the Cuatro Lagunas valley, the land opens into an expanse of rolling puna, dotted with sparkling lagoons and volcanic rock formations. Here, we switch gears—literally—and jump on mountain bikes for a thrilling, scenic descent into the valley, with a support vehicle always nearby.

The ride winds past turquoise lakes, curious llamas, and wind-sculpted cliffs—an exhilarating way to experience the Andes. By late afternoon, we arrive at the elegant Hacienda Chuquiccahuana, a restored colonial estate nestled in a quiet valley. With cozy rooms, warm hospitality, and a delicious home-cooked dinner, it's the perfect reward after a full day of highland adventure.

We'll conclude the day with dinner at our lodge, nestled in an enchanting old hacienda where we'll be warmly welcomed for the night.

We arrive at the serene Andenia Hotel (or similar), a boutique retreat surrounded by gardens and snow-capped peaks. After days of hiking and exploration, the evening is yours to rest and rejuvenate. Today is all about slowing down and savoring the spirit of the Sacred Valley. In the quiet village of Lamay, we dive into daily life with the people who call this place home.

We start with a guided walk through the village, visiting the historic Lamay Church, built in the 1600s and filled with traditional Cusqueñan religious art. You'll even climb to the choir loft and bell tower—where bells once rang out coded messages across the valley.

Next, we visit a local family who raises cuy (guinea pigs)—an important part of Andean culture. We’ll learn about their sustainable practices and what this tradition means for their livelihood. Then, it’s off to a chichería, where you’ll see the process of brewing chicha de jora, a fermented corn beer that has long brought communities together.

We’ll also stop by the town bread oven, a place of warmth and ritual where neighbors gather each morning to bake. Every activity offers insight into real Andean life and the people who keep these traditions alive.

We will drive to take the train from Ollantaytambo train station to Km 104, where the short Inca Trail starts.

The valley turns into a canyon and the scenery begins to alter as the cloud forests appear on our approach to the Machu Picchu Sanctuary. We will disembark the train at Km 104 and start the hike along a quite challenging uphill path.

This ancient Inca Trail takes us uphill all the way to the magnificent archeological complex of Wiñay Wayna, from where there are many steep steps to climb to reach the upper part of the Archaeological Site. Here we find a fabulous sense of peace far from the crowds. with superb views of the imposing verdant mountains and native orchids. The trail now becomes gentler, continuing all the way to the Sun Gate, where we arrive to Machu Picchu through its real entrance. It is from here that we will have our first glimpse of the Machu Picchu citadel. We then cross the site to take the bus down to Aguas Calientes town and check in to our lodge to rest and relax, in anticipation of a full day visit tomorrow.

Good Morning! Rested and enthusiastic for our ultimate day we have the option to relax this the morning or have a wander round the town.

Today we will lunch early in one of Aguas Calientes’ excellent restaurants in order to arrive to the Citadel in good time for our full afternoon tour. Accompanied by our guide, we take a 25 minute bus ride to the sanctuary of Machupicchu (2400m / 7874ft). Our guide will lead us in a tour of exploration and discovery of the many curious corners within this enigmatic Citadel. Our guided tour will have an average duration of 2 hours.

As the site closes for the day at 5:30pm we bus back down to Aguas Calientes. We then have a charming train journey back to Ollantaytambo and time to reflect on, quite possibly, one of the most amazing experiences of your life. Our private transport will be waiting to take us back to your hotel.

OPTION: Machupicchu with Huaynapicchu

If you feel like you could take on another uphill challenge, you have the option to climb the famous mountain of Huaynapicchu this morning, pre afternoon tour. It is important to mention that to climb this mountain, you need to buy a separate ticket in advance. Please confirm that you want to make this climb at the time of making your booking with us. The trail consists of many steep narrow steps (not recommended for people who suffer vertigo), the height of the mountain is 2700m / 8858ft (the climb is 300 m.) We will climb Huaynapicchu at 10am. The route is around 3 hours round trip. We will then exit Machupicchu citadel and have our lunch at Sanctuary Lodge just outside the entrance to the Citadel. After lunch we re-enter the citadel at 2:00 pm for our guided tour of the citadel itself.

Today marks the moment to say our goodbyes as we prepare to embark on the flight back to Lima.

We will drive you back to the airport on time for your flight to Lima and then back home.
